PUBLIC BANK WINS CORPORATE REPORT AWARD AGAIN

Lumpur: Dec 4 - Public Bank Bhd proved its stance on excellent corporate
reporting by bagging the overall excellence award for the Most Outstanding
Annual Report of the Year at the National Annual Corporate Report
Awards (NACRA).
It
was the second consecutive year the bank won the award.
Public
Bank also bagged the Industry Excellence Award for Main Board companies
in the finance segment, said Malaysian Institute of Accountants in
a statement.
Meanwhile,
Kumpulan Guthrie Bhd walked home with two awards - the industry excellence
award for Main Board companies in the plantations and mining sector
and the Best Annual Report in Bahasa Malaysia.

Other
winners in the industry excellence awards for Main Board companies
include British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Bhd (consumer products),
Petronas Gas Bhd (industrial products and technology), Telekom Malaysia
Bhd (trading and services), IJM Corporation Bhd (construction & infrastructure
project companies), and Island & Peninsular Bhd (properties, hotel
& trusts).
Telekom
Malaysia also won the best designed annual report while Shell Refining
Company (Federation of Malaya) Bhd bagged the environmental reporting
award, and CIMB Bhd took the special award for non-listed organisations.
While
all the companies listed on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange automatically
qualified for the NACRA competition and underwent a preliminary screening
process, only 93 passed the preliminary screening and qualified for
detailed adjudication.
It said 86 of those companies were from Main Board, while seven were
from Second Board.
In
a speech at the event, Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs
Tan Sri Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin said the Companies Commission of Malaysia
would be issuing a Consultation Document on a new form of business vehicle
to be known as Limited Liability Partnership (LLP).
He
said the objective of issuing the consultation document was to seek
views on whether the LLP should be introduced as another local business
vehicle.
He
said the document would seek views on the proposed contents of the would-be
legislation governing LLP.
The
Consultation Document will be made available at the Companies Commission
of Malaysia website on Dec 5, 2003, and the consultation process will
end on Jan 31, 2004.
