United Engineers (M) Bhd (UEM) was awarded the concession to privatise the Government Medical Store (GMS) through the Ministry of Health (MOH).

The concession was novated to its subsidiary, Remedi Pharmaceuticals (M) Sdn Bhd (Remedi) - then known as Southern Task (M) Sdn Bhd, which started operations on 1 December 1994 with a paid up capital of RM 20 million. Under the concession agreement, Remedi has the exclusive rights to manufacture, purchase, store and distribute pharmaceutical and medical products to medical institutions and hospitals under the jurisdiction of MOH.

On 21 August 1998, Remedi Pharmaceuticals (M) Sdn Bhd (Remedi) was incorporated as an investment holding company for all its business units under the new brand name, Pharmaniaga Berhad.
1999

Remedi (now known as Pharmaniaga Logistics Sdn Bhd) became a subsidiary company of Pharmaniaga Berhad.
Pharmaniaga acquired interest in two pharmaceutical entities, Raza Group and Strand Group

Pharmaniaga Berhad made its debut on the Second Board of the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange, (now known as Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad - "Bursa Malaysia").

The Medical Equipment Unit or MEU (now known as Pharmaniaga Biomedical Sdn Bhd), which was then operating under Remedi was awarded by the Ministry of Health (MOH) contract to provide equipping and consultancy services to six new government hospitals in Sabah and Sarawak particularly in Lahad Datu, Keningau, Pitas, Kuala Penyu and Kunak in Sabah, as well as Sarikei in Sarawak.

All companies within the Pharmaniaga Group except Strand Pharmaceuticals (M) Sdn. Bhd. were renamed to carry the singular Pharmaniaga identity.
2003

March 2003
Migration of Pharmaniaga from the Second Board to the Main Board of the Bursa with increased paid up capital of RM100 million from RM50 million previously.

The Group acquired a whole interest of Safire Pharmaceuticals to further maximise its manufacturing capabilities (interest in Safire was disposed in 2008).

The Group under its subsidiary Pharmaniaga Logistics Sdn Bhd implemented the Clinic Procurement System (CPS) to change the old Hospital Inventory System (HIS), an online application system used by the Government clinics and hospitals to order drugs and non-drug items as in the concession list.

December 2004
On 1 December 2004, the Group completed the acquisition of 55 per per cent equity in PT Millennium Pharmacon International Tbk (MPI), Indonesia. MPI is a key player in pharmaceuticals industry for both local and foreign principals in Indonesia.
